Huang baomei, 90, can best understand the saying, "in the old society, I worked 12 hours a day, and when I was tired, I had to be beaten once my eyes closed a little." Since 1953, new China has officially opened the prelude of socialist construction. In this year, Huang baomei, 22, emerged from more than 300000 spinning workers in Shanghai with the fastest record of 1000 spindles per person, becoming the first generation model worker in New China.
The third spinning workshop she managed was rated as Shanghai model worker collective, and the 17th national cotton factory where she worked had contributed 40% of cotton to new China. Huang baomei has been working in the workshop for 42 years until she retired in January 1987. She has been rated as a model worker in Shanghai, the Ministry of textile industry and the whole country for seven times. She was cordially received eight times by the older generation of Party and state leaders such as Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai and Song Qingling.
